Next Step Learning Center Celebrates Twenty Years!

On November 6, 2014 Next Step Learning Center marked its 20th Anniversary with a wonderful evening of celebration at Scott’s in Jack London Square. Friends and supporters gathered to celebrate Next Step’s mission of strengthening Oakland families and communities through literacy and to thank all those who have made the accomplishments of these 20 years possible!

Because of the generous participation of people like you, Next Step Learning Center has been able to celebrate the following achievements:

  • More than 5,000 Oakland youth and adults have been served by Next Step’s basic literacy, High School Equivalency preparation, and college transition programs.
  • More than 700 former high school dropouts have achieved full High School Equivalency certification, increased access to opportunity, and greater hope for the future. Many former high school dropouts are enrolled in college today!
  • 80 High School Equivalency graduates have completed at least one semester of college in the past six years.
  • 30 Next Step students and High School Equivalency graduates have completed employment training programs and/or gained access to entry level jobs as part of our new Workforce Connections Project.
