Become A Volunteer Tutor
Make a positive impact by tutoring one-on-one with a motivated student.
Volunteers are partnered with a person 17 years or older to work one-on-one in the areas of reading, writing, math, science or social studies, depending on the volunteer’s areas of interest and expertise. They meet with students in person at our West Oakland site or online via Zoom.
Next Step provides the materials for you and your student. Prior to your meeting, we will have assessed the student’s reading and/or math level and created a general program for them. The curriculum is well-organized and easy to follow.
Volunteers normally contribute 2-3 hours per week, meeting with a student once or twice a week. Most tutoring happens Monday - Friday between 9am to 4pm. Additional online tutoring is available for students and tutors who prefer evenings or weekends.
